A Contactless Performance — Exploring the Intimacy of Physical Touch

Description

Qadar — Arabic for divine destiny, Al-Qadar — is a research-led performance project on the human need for physical touch and community in a digitally mediated age. It is built around contemporary dance and a single charged material: fabric. The work traces six stages of life — birth, exploration, confinement, desire, connection and separation — using the cloth as both barrier and connector, a stand-in for the invisible bonds technology has thinned. Dancers begin encased as if in the womb, stretch outward into curiosity, then struggle beneath one shared sheet as collectivism gives way to individualism, reaching for one another through the fabric. Shot in cool-toned, earthy stills paired with a dreamlike film, Qadar sets the static image against the moving body to argue for reviving touch, play and presence as foundations of mental wellbeing.
